The Proposal (for the ladies)

Rashell and Colby had talked about marriage and knew it was coming, however, Colby has a little brother named Logan (who is his BFF) that is still on a mission in Mexico. So with that in mind, they decided to wait until January to tie the knot. Knowing this, Rashell though a proposal wasn't in store till at least October... wrong was she.

Friday, July 13, started off just like any other day. Colby went to work, and Rashell did what she does (facebook stalk, blog stalk, etc). The only thing special about this friday was that it was going to be the first time that Rashell and Colby's families met eachother. After hearing rumors of wedding bells, temple plans, and the like, they decided they needed to become acquainted with one another. Dinner plans were made for 7:30, right after Colby gets home from work. Also, knowing that he had already bought the ring, Rashell figured that he would be asking her dad for his blessing to pop the question sometime over the weekend while they were in town. She just knew it was going to be sometime after everybody got together friday night.

7 o'clock rolled around, and Rashell was already with her family in Provo. She figured it would be easier to just have Colby meet her at the restaurant than to backtrack back to her house in Orem, meet him there, and drive back down to Gloria's, in the heart of Provo. That makes sense, right? WRONG. Her family tells her that her plan doesn't sound very good, and she should probably call Colby before she headed out with the rest of the group. After calling, Colby made it pretty obvious that he wanted to meet her back at home to "pick up his golf clubs" at her house. Then and there, she figured that something was up.

Rashell was so confident that she was going to get proposed to right then that she painted her nails to look good for the flurry of upcoming pictures. After getting off work a little late, Colby was in a big hurry to get to dinner on time. He rushed in, looked around for his golf clubs, made a bathroom pit stop, and rushed Rashell out the door. Was she disappointed that she had gotten her hopes up? A little bit. Well, after pulling away from the house, Colby asks if they can stop by the mailbox. He said that there was something he had ordered for his mom for her birthday, and that it should be getting there that night. Rashell said that was fine. She waited patiently in the car as Colby fumbled around with the mail key, ending up asking her for help (as she is the only one who knows how to actually open her mailbox). She came around, opened it, and grabbed the junk mail and letters that were in there. No package. However, there was a letter addressed to her. It looked like a wedding invitation. It was only half sealed, so her curiosity got the best of her, and she opened it on the spot. Inside, she didn't see a wedding invite, but a letter saying "Will you marry me?" She looked down and Colby was on one knee with the ring in his hand. After a few sweet nothings, he asked her the big question, and they made it official.

After dinner with the family, running a few errands, visiting family in the hospital, and meeting up for ice cream with friends, they were absolutely pooped. The excitement of the evening had started to wear off, and the exhaustion had begun to set in. After getting to her house, they went inside, and walked up to her room. Rashell started to walk into her bathroom before doing a double take. She realized that there were spots on her walls. She must be seeing things. She asked Colby if he saw the dark spots on the walls too. He said that he couldn't see a thing. She was getting frustrated, so she walked over and turned on the light. There were dozens and dozens of Mickey Mouse silhouettes all over her wall! She turned around, and Colby pulled something out of his pocket. They were season passes to Disneyland! He told her that everything was completely set, and they were going the next week to celebrate their engagement!

It turns out that Colby had asked her dad for his blessing on his lunch break, not after dinner. He figured that the only way to keep her surprised is to do it before she thought that it would even be possible. Then, he took the mail key that was in his car, fumbled around with it until he could open up her mailbox, and ever so slyly put the card that he had expertly made that day at work in there. While he ran into the bathroom before they left, he was actually putting a huge pile of Mickey Mouses and some double stick tape under the bathroom sink, so that her roommate could get them after they had left for dinner, and put them up all over her room. Well done, Colby. Well, done.
